Jeff Healey was a blues and jazz musician who passed away in 2008. As I was driving around the other night I heard a tribute to him on what is perhaps the greatest radio station in the world, WNKU. I had almost forgot what an amazing guitar player he was. Many people made a big deal out of the fact that he was blind and played guitar sitting it flat in his lap but overlooked his amazing phrasing and musicality. Many people also didn’t realize he was also a great jazz trumpet and clarinet player. Guitar Player Magazine said, “Jeff Healey may be the only cat around who can play the prewar jazz of Louis Armstrong on the trumpet, and the heavy electric blues-rock of ZZ Top on the guitar.”
After hearing the tribute, I figured I would take a moment to remind everyone what a unique talent Jeff was and that he is missed.
